To my Makeila

To my Makeila (21 months),

I have to tell you or anyone that will listen that today I realized that I have too much to tell you.  I am way passed due with writing to you.  So here it goes my love...

Today we left early to Grandma's house and you made me play the Disneyland soundtrack the whole way.  I had Pirates of the Caribbean song on repeat...really.  YOU honestly have the sweetest character.  When we get to Grandma's house you greet everyone with a "hi, how are you?" and "morning, morning".  The most shocking words that have yet to come out of your mouth besides "oh shit" happened while I was making you lunch.  I was cooking one of your faves..white rice and you clearly said "mom, mom..your beautiful".  I was and am still in such awe of my little girl.

Makeila, you are such an intelligent little lady.  I honestly believe you are already an old soul.  Sounds funny but it is true.  I joke with everyone that you are a southern belle.

I look forward to writing to more to you.  Kisses my love.

It is never too late to blog

Today Makeila, Robert, and I attended our good friends' bbq and it was a great time as always. Makeila was so excited to see one of her bestfriend's Derek. They played together in his new playset with a slide that she loved.

While talking with my friend who is pregnant and going to give birth very soon, I came to a realization that it is not too late to start recording anything and everything about our lives with Makeila. She and I were talking about how love to check out all the creative blogs and I was telling her how she should and could do a blog for her baby. I said that I had wanted to that so bad but didn't the first year of Makeila's life. She told "Jessica it's not too late, you can start now". So here I am..typing while Makeila is asleep at 10pm. This is the perfect time for a mom to start because I have so much to share. Robert is at work and she is asleep for the night, this is the only good time for me to start. Tune in...

much needed girl time

This past weekend i had such an awesome time. For the first time in over a year, I went out with 2 of my best girlfriends. I was very surprised at myself since I was the one that set up the whole day. I actually think it went like this " hey I think I want to go barhopping...just us". Since Beatrice and Trish have known me since our days at SJ they knew that I usually do not get out. They immediately replied "lets do it". I have to admit I felt so guilty to go out being that I have a 6 month old and a husband at home. Although something inside of me knew it was the right thing to do.

We met at Beatrice's condo in Long Beach and caught a shuttle to Panama Joe's.
I immediately wanted to skip eating and get right to catching up and having drinks. We did exactly that. Since I am not much of a drinker I knew it wouldn't take me long to get a little tipsy off our double shot of tequila margarita pitcher ordered by your truly (yes I know..tons of calories). So over some delicious nachos and some margaritas we caught up with eachother's lives through some great conversation.

I have to say that I was just so eager to hear about their lives being that I am the only married friend and a mom too. We laughed so hard, all 3 of us at numerous times did that "funny laugh". You know the one that your eyes are almost shut and mouths are open but nothing is coming out..yeah that laugh. In my opinion it's the most fun laugh. Although, for a moment I was scared that my stories would be so boring and different to them. I found out very fast that I was totally overthinking and my "different" stories were just as important and entertaining as their stories. These girls know me..really know me and that was all that mattered.

Towards the end I was having so much fun laughing that I ordered shots of Patron Silver (chilled of course) all around. I guess I just didn't want the day to end. I just wanted to stay that much longer to hear about Beatrice's life and how we are in the works of planning a "dance revolution party". I also wanted to hear more about Trish's funny family stories and hear her vent about her high stress job. But most important I missed just being with the girls. It took me a long time to realize that it is ok to step away from the family and catch up with dear friends. In fact, it is needed because it made me go back home not only a little tipsy BUT much appreciative of my blessed life. Blessed because I can go out and have some great conversation with 2 lifelong friends and come home to a husband that is not only understanding but encouraging of my "me" time while taking care of our "lil puppy" Makeila. So in the profound words of Nikki Manaj "I am not lucky, Im blessed".
